1st Photographic Recinnaissance Squadron

The 1st Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron was founded on December 22 1939, and was

first activated on February 1 1940. The assignments were to map and photographically

chart different areas.

 

During the years 1940-1943 they were ordered to map locations in the United States, Canada

and Greenland. With the start of World War II, the mapping extended to Africa (Ivory Coast

and nothern countries), Middle East (Italy, Sicily, Sardinia) and the far east (China, Okinanwa)

during 1945-1947.

 

The 1st Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron was deactivated on March 10 1947

and ceased to exist as of October 8 1948.
